Manual magazine, October 2007

Earlier at 24 Oras, a very anticipated Chika Minute news bit was for Marimar Philippines Marian Rivera’s first full feature, including cover, in a local men’s magazine. The only big surprise they had left for the actual chika was which men’s magazine was it for. It turned out to be Manual magazine, the lesser popular magazine which is not entirely full-on machismo when it comes to their photo shoots. I had hoped it was either FHM or Maxim, but I’m guessing Manual might have booked Mariam early on without even knowing she’d be blown out of proportion (popularity) because of Marimar.

The shoot has finished, there were snippets of her while she was posing so anyone who saw the news already has an idea of how “sexy” the feature will turn out. Not much skin I have to say. I’m thinking they will go along the lines of Angel Locsin’s FHM shoots - more classy sexy than almost-nude sexy. Plus, they interviewed the chief editor, RJ Ledesma, and he admits that Marian did not wear the usual skimpy outfits normally seen in other men’s magazines. He goes on by saying that “sexy” does not really mean nude, and in her feature, “sexy” means the way she projects herself in front of the lens and how she carries the clothes they chose for her.

Marian adds that there are other offers for her to pose in the other magazines. She said that it is only her first feature and she even said, “…gagawin ko po ‘yan,” when asked if we will still see more of her in sexy pictorials. Watch out for Marian’s Manual photos in October, I’ll be sure to grab one as soon as it hits the newsstands.

Stumbles, trips live on television

On the set of SOP yesterday, during a song and dance number featuring Billy Crawford. Pauleen was wearing angel-like wings on her back and was going down a step when she tripped and fell to her knees. It was seen on live television. Here is the video from GMA’s site. Says she, she was trying to avoid Alessandra de Rossi’s wings which were about to hit her. She admits that she is known for being clumsy. In the video she cites that she has already broken a finger and even once fell on her chin. She also referenced Miriam Quiambao’s Ms. Universe incident and says that there’s really nothing to do but stand up after one falls.

Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian

On another note, I just found out that she is dating Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian. So the title of this post can also stand for Pauleen Luna falls for politician. Anyway, never good for one’s image to fall for a politician. Like they say, “Prostitution may be the oldest profession, but politics is the dirtiest.” Pauleen, Pauleen. Good thing you’re too cute to be disliked.

And, I’m sure you’ve encountered this by now. I think it’s for Yahoo! Music. In the video she admits that Umbrella is currently one of her favorite songs and even goes as far as saying that “…there’s no denying how melodic the song is.” On the other hand, I have been recently encountering more and more people annoyed by Rihanna’s Umbrella. I’m not that big a fan of RnB but I like the song. It’s the radio stations and music channels murdering the song. These people annoyed by Umbrella claim they now like the song because of Mandy Moore’s rendition. Come on, Mandy killed the crap out of that song. It (song) needs attitude and intensity, not emotion like in a love song. It looks stupid putting that much emotion to a song about an umbrella (I know it’s figurative). But, this is a babe blog so who cares? And we all like Rihanna and Mandy Moore anyway, now that’s what matters.

Ahoo! Ahoo!

Thanks to the recent explosion of 300’s Ilongo version, plus it’s release in DVD, I found myself once again watching this soon-to-be one of my all time favorite lakas movies. And, to benefit this babe blog, I researched some information and pictures on Queen Gorgo. Queen Gorgo is played by Lena Headey, a British actress whose most substantial appearance prior to 300 is probably from the movie The Brothers Grimm. Lena is obviously the main babe in 300, after all, she is the lead, and the only other babe I can think of in the movie is that weird-looking and dancing Oracle.

Lena Headey was born in October 3, 1973, which makes her 33 years old when 300 was shown. She has her own TV series entitled The Sarah Connor Chronicles, although I don’t think it is shown in any of our cable channels. She has a tattoo written in Thai that reads “Jason,” for actor Jason Flemyng, best known as Dr. Jekyll in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It is said that over a hundred women, including known sexy stars auditioned for the role of a Filipina dancer in Tran Anh Hung’s I Come With The Rain, starring Josh Hartnett, which was recently shot in Mt. Diwalwal, Davao. It is Thea Aquino, a virtually unknown starlet who was chosen for the role. Thea plays a Filipina dancer who in the movie reminds Josh Hartnett of some of his past traumatic experiences. Thea’s scene was shot in over six days but her clip will last for only three minutes. Director Tran Anh Hung told Thea that despite her short appearance, people will surely notice her because he did his best to make the role stand out.

Thea admits that she shed tears of joy when she got the call confirming her part. She has already spent two years trying to break into the entertainment business and admitted that she is almost ready to quit prior to her lucky break. Before this movie, Thea is probably best known as “Snakewoman” because of her regular modeling stint (fashion shows) holding two Burmese pythons. She also made a short appearance in the movie Tulad Ng Dati.

Thea is all praises for the meticulous methods of director Tran Anh Hung and co-star Josh Hartnett’s down-to-earthiness. She adds that Josh is really easy to get along with and has no hint of star complexity. He (Josh Hartnett) insists that he eats his meals with the crew and is always around sharing stories and laughing with everyone.

Here is a picture of Thea from another site with a small picture of her and Josh inscribed. I guess she looks alright, kind of chinita. I was expecting to see someone more exotic-looking, kind of like what we are used to seeing foreigners hook-up with, but it’s probably because the director is Vietnamese, ergo no hint of Western taste.

Literally

Isabel Oli passed out on set during a taping session of Ang Mga Mata Ni Anghelita. Rumor has it that Isabel Oli is pregnant with boyfriend Paolo Contis’ baby, but there is no truth to that. Wait, Paolo Contis and Isabel Oli? One lucky lad. Isabel claims that the shooting lasted for almost 12 hours, plus she had a fever, and the fact that she has been working for three straight days prior to the incident. She then added that her doctor’s findings from her symptoms are consistent with low-blood sugar, and went on to rest for four days before returning to taping.

On the pregnancy issue

Isabel clears the pregnancy issue by saying that she is willing to show anyone the results from her check-up. She also adds that pregnancy is not the only reason people collapse. She went on to say that she is somehow pissed at the pregnancy issue, and openly admits that she and Paolo are not engaging in premarital sex. To quote Isabel, “It’s really bawal for us, lalo na sa religion namin. Kasal muna bago ‘yun.”

So Paolo Contis is not getting any from Isabel? Now what can be more nakakalalake than that? Har, har. Not for a second will I believe that Paolo is totally fine with that. In my opinion, if he’s not getting it from Isabel, he’s getting it somewhere else.

Bianca King is UNO Magazine’s September 2007 cover girl. It was in the news earlier. Among those worth mentioning about the news bit is 1 - Bianca admits to having some input in the art layout and also says that she bared the least skin here among her other sexy pictorials, and 2 - Champ Lui Pio was allegedly by her side through the entire shoot. The next paragraphs will discuss the issues further.

Not much skin

She adds that “sexy” is in the eyes of the beholder and she wants to be different in this shoot. I’m thinking her feature is more artsy than just raw nudity. These girls always think about the “tastefulness” in their pictorials when in the reality, their pictures end up in the hands of perverts who are interested in nothing but jacking off and seeing them naked anyway. Don’t feel sorry because we all know that popularity is what they get in return.

Bianca King and Champ Lui Pio

In the news Bianca says that they are not officially together. Champ says that Bianca’s mother asked him go so she does not go “overboard.” I blogged about Bianca King in my personal blog when I was given some juicy news about the two. But wait a minute, where did I hear this story about Bianca allegedly meeting with her ex-boyfriend when Champ and the band were out on a provincial tour? This apparently led to some jealousy. I’m not saying it is true, I believe it though, and I dare you to believe it.

I am still excited on UNO magazine’s September issue. After all, it is Bianca King. She kills. I have seen her in person, believe me. Look forward to my post and the pages of that issue, most probably first week of September.

Priscilla Meirelles, Brazillian Goddess, beauty queen and ex-trophy girlfriend of Marc Nelson is now with John Estrada. “We’ve been together for almost two months,” John said. He adds on to say that her attitude is like that of a Filipina’s and she’s very understanding. At the birthday party of talent manager Douglas Quijano, sources say that John and Priscilla arrived 30 minutes after Gretchen Barretto left. Cool.

What’s with John Estrada?

Seriously? This guy is my hero. By far he has the most beautiful collection of women linked to him. I give a thousand plus pogi points to John Estrada and minus a thousand babe points for Priscilla for going down a notch. Sorry John, but we all know she is a lot hotter than you. John Estrada wins the tulis award of the decade.

Replacing Katrina Halili

Ehra Madrigal is now the official calendar girl of Tanduay Rhum for 2008. Still only half-past 2007 but the rumors are already circulating, including an immaterial issue regarding Katrina Halili’s “reaction.” The pictorial has already been finished according to Ehra, they were shot on a beach in Cebu. The calendar will be released December 2007.

I wonder who Ginebra San Miguel will get though, those two companies are like FHM-Maxim and ABS-CBN-GMA. In my opinion they (Ginebra) should do a lot better on their Angelica Panganiban choice, and be extra weary of before and after picture leaks.

Here’s one version of Katrina Halili’s calendar, here’s another one. I literally drool over those over at suking tindahans. But Ehra is getting hotter by the day, so this is definitely something to look forward to.

Misa Campo is another Filipina making a name for herself overseas. She’s from Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is of Filipino-Dutch descent. She is an import model - as in import cars, so in Canada and in the U.S., these are the Japanese Honda Civics. The import scene has a very large following, therefore there are magazines and events devoted to them. Misa appears in these magazines and events because of her distinct Asian appearance.

I have heard of Misa Campo before but her appearance in UNO magazine’s Aiza Marquez issue reminded me to post something about her. She reminds me of Leah Dizon, another Filipina import model, but Leah has made a bigger name for herself especially in Japan. I’ve included her scans from UNO magazine (2), click on the picture below.
